Friederike Range of the University of Vienna confirms what dog owners have always known:
dogs don't appreciate being treated unfairly. The popular press calls it envy; Dr. Range prefers the term
inequity aversion. Either way, dogs know. And in case we've forgotten, so do people.
If animals and humans share a cognitive ability to feel "emotions" then, as one thoughtful creature to another, we must rethink how we as humans treat the "other".
