Eating crow over snakes
Okay. I confess I was mistaken. After finishing part six of J.K. Rowling's saga, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, I must retract my previously expressed admiration for Slytherin House. The snake-loving house seems too entangled with the Death-Eaters and Lord Voldemort to warrant respect, much less admiration.

I think Ravenclaw gets the shaft in HP. It is severely shortchanged by Rowling, primarily because it probably is the only other House which could truly compete with Gryffindor for mainstream sympathies. It gets far and away the least amount of attention in the books, it has the fewest prominent members, and despite being the "smart" house, it doesn't even get the smartest student in the school (Hermione)!
Just one of the many, many injustices in Rowling's world.
